The story
Sundowns legends Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda and Teko Modise formed a team with Puma South Africa officials Lefa Tsutsulupa and Tshepo Mashishi to take part in a four-a-side tournament featuring teams representing Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.
From the beginning, Sundowns were seen as one of the favourites. From the MC to opposition players, there was this fear that Kekana, Mabunda and Modise would dazzle their way to the final.
The South Africans lived up to the hype in the first match, beating the Monterrey team of Mexicans 4-3 in a tightly contested game.
With Mabunda in goal, Sundowns had a sweeper keeper who was not afraid to leave his goal line.
He was, after all, a midfielder who loved having the ball at his feet, so staying in goal the whole time was simply not going to work.
After the first match, Sundowns won one and lost two matches, so they finished the group stage campaign on six points. It was not enough to send them through to the semis.
There was some disappointment on their faces, but what made up for it is the love they received from other teams' players who kept wanting to take pictures with them. They might be retired, but they can still draw attention.
