Daniels dedicates Two Oceans run to Fleurs
After parting ways with Cape Town Spurs this year, Clayton Daniels is continuing with his long-distance running jersey by taking on his second Two Oceans Marathon.
Although Daniels wasn't sharing the road with the Gerda Steyn's of the world in Saturday's Ultra marathon, he ran Sunday's half marathon and dedicated his effort to his recently slain ex-teammate, Luke Fleurs.
"You know mos what happened with Luke Fleurs, I ran in his memory," he told athletics journalist, Matshelane Mamabolo.
Fleurs was gunned down during a botched car hijacking incident at a petrol station in Johannesburg, two weeks ago.
Six people have since been arrested for Fleurs' murder, with his stolen VW Golf 8 also being found. The six suspects appeared at the Roodepoort magistrates court last Friday, with the bail hearing being moved to this Friday, according to local reports.

Daniels shared the pitch with young Fleurs during his time at Matsatsantsa and revealed to Mamabolo what he had in common with Fleurs:
"He was a young boy that I kind of mentored when he came to SuperSport and also a boy from Mithcell's Plein where I come from, so this was in memory of Luke Fleurs," said Daniels, who completed his 21.1km run in a solid one hour and 44 minutes.
The 39-year-old ran the Two Oceans wearing Fleurs' number 25 SuperSport United red Away jersey, reflected further on Fleurs' passing:
"It is very, very sad what happened to Luke Fleurs, you know. It really is not a nice thing for a young boy, just 24 years old, who had his whole future ahead of him to be killed," he added after completing the race.
Fleurs' funeral is said to be held at the New Apostolic Church in Mitchell's Plain on Saturday, 20 April.
