The story
Cape Town City officially launched their new home kit for the 2025/26 season over the weekend, drawing inspiration from their popular 2017/18 and 2018/19 Umbro designs.
The Citizens gave fans a first look at the fresh threads during their Motsepe Foundation Championship opener against Venda FA at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, a match that ended in a goalless draw.
The new design, created by Umbro, was unveiled across the club's social media platforms, where it was described as a modern reimagining of a classic look.
While the club didn't specify which previous kit served as the direct blueprint, the new home strip revives a notable design element from their earliest seasons in South Africa's top flight — a bold gold strip across the torso.
This feature had been a staple of City's Umbro kits until 2020, and its return has been welcomed as a nod to the club's recent history.
The new look combines tradition with a fresh edge as the team looks to tap into their past glory to overcome the challenge of promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
