The story

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend, Bernard Parker is a couple of months into his new chapter as a coach, pulling down the curtain on a successful 20 years in professional football.

Bernard Parker, who scored 94 career goals and over 50 assists, transition to coaching in June, having accepted the role of head coach for The Rockets' DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team for the 2024/25 season, alongside Vuyo Mere.

With a career that saw him ply his trade in the Premier Soccer League, Dutch Eredivisie, and Serbian League, the 38-year-old is ready to leverage his extensive experience and accomplishments from the sidelines.

Speaking at the Betway Premiership launch on Tuesday in Johannesburg, Parker spoke about how he's handling his transition into management.

"Yeah, it's been a great transition I would say. I've been preparing myself throughout my playing career for this moment. I'm glad that I'm one of the lucky players who made that transition, immediately, from playing to being on the technical side.

"I'm very excited, you know, I feel like this opportunity is the same as when you start your football career. All of the excitement, you can't wait to be at training, to get going and improve. Same as a coach now, I can't wait to get to training to improve the players and myself as well," shared Parker, showing some appreciation to Tim Sukazi for affording him a chance to kickstart his coaching career.

"I'm happy, thankful and grateful to the chairman for giving me this opportunity. To our head coach, coach Sead [Ramovic], who put his firm belief and trust in me that I will do a good job in the DDC and also to keep me close with him as one of his assistants in the first team, in order to continue where we left off in helping the youngsters and getting the best out of them," shared Parker, in a clip shared by SuperSport TV.
