The story
Despite Mamelodi Sundowns bowing out of the Club World Cup following their 0-0 Group F draw with Fluminense at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, Lucas Ribeiro Costa walked away with a smile on his face on Wednesday.
Ribeiro, who shone as one of Masandawana's standout players in the tournament, received a jersey from Fluminense's legendary attacking midfielder, Paulo Henrique Ganso.
Ganso enjoyed wonderkid status in the late 2000s when he broke out at Santos, playing alongside former FC Barcelona superstar Neymar Jr.
Now in the twilight years of his career at 35, Ganso is widely regarded by fans as a "streets will never forget" type of footballer, having also enjoyed stints at Sao Paulo and European sides, Sevilla and Amiens.
Ribeiro took to Instagram not to reflect on Sundowns’ goalless draw and exit from the CWC, but to share his moment with Ganso.
"Thank you for the shirt, idol. Damn I was playing with you on the field of play," wrote Ribeiro in his caption, translated from Portuguese.
