Orlando Pirates extended their winless run to five matches in the DStv Diski Challenge after losing 3-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday morning at Dobsonville Stadium.

The Brazilians had a perfect start after Ofentse Mashiane opened the scoring in the 12th minute and they gained momentum, as Cassius Mailula scored a brace within five minutes to make it 3-0 midway through the first stanza.

Cassius Spandiel pulled a goal back for Pirates just before the hour-mark while Siyabonga Moleane took the game to the wire with the second goal back eight minutes before time.

However, Sundowns had a stronger finish, as Mailula was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar in stoppages.

Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways after defeating Swallows 3-1 in the Soweto derby on Saturday afternoon at Dobsonville Stadium.

Chiefs were playing for the first time without goalkeeper Bontle Molefe and Mduduzi Shabalala, who both left the country during the week for trials in Belgium.

Wandile Duba broke the deadlock for Amakhosi just before the half-hour mark but the Birds replied almost immediately thereafter thanks to a penalty converted by Tiniko Sithole.

Keletso Sifama restored the lead for Vela Khumalo's charges just before the half-time break and Samkelo Zwane should have made it 3-1 on the hour-mark but had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Ndumiso Zakwe.

However, Bafana Zitha eventually put the game to bed for Chiefs five minutes later from another spot-kick.

SuperSport United blew the title race wide open after a late 1-0 win over leaders Stellenbosch on Sunday afternoon at Idas Valley Sports Ground.

Stellies had a big chance to go ahead in the 19th minute from the penalty spot but Liam De Kock's spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Samkelo Xulu.

SuperSport were denied the winner by the crossbar a couple of times in the closing stages but Dan Tshimanga eventually found the back of the net 19 minutes before time.

TS Galaxy kept their chances of winning the title alive after thrashing Cape Town City 3-1 on Sunday morning at Idas Valley Sports Complex.

Daanyal Daya broke the deadlock for the Rockets in the 24th minute, doubled their lead and completed his brace nine minutes before the half-time break.

Togeur Claasen pulled a goal back for the Citizens in the 64th minute but Aphelele Teto sealed the three points for Galaxy six minutes before time.
