First Team Duo Feature For Chiefs In 'Mini Soweto Derby'

Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs rescued a 1-1 draw against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in their DStv Diski Challenge opener on Sunday afternoon.

First-team players Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba were included in the Chiefs line-up.

Mehluleli Maphumulo opened the scoring for Pirates after 20 minutes but Donay Jansen found the equaliser for Amakhosi ten minutes later.

Mpumelelo Ndaba almost snatched the winner for Joseph Makhanya's charges in the dying minutes but goalkeeper Lungile Nkodi made an outstanding save to deny the Buccaneers their third consecutive win over Amakhosi.

Mamelodi Sundowns 1-1 SuperSport United

New Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Sinethemba Badela started his reign with a point after a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United on Saturday afternoon at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Siyabonga Mabena broke the deadlock for Sundowns early in the second stanza but Manelis Mazibuko levelled matters for Matsatsantsa with two minutes to go.

The Brazilians still had time to get maximum points with great chances but were denied by 16-year old goalkeeper Micha Taitz, who was voted Man of the Match.

Moroka Swallows 1-1 TS Galaxy

Moroka Swallows and TS Galaxy settled for a share of the spoils in their Diski Challenge opener on the opening weeked.

Olwethu Khumalo opened the scoring for Swallows on 19 minutes but Danyaal Daya snatched the equaliser for the Rockets four minutes before time from the penalty spot.

Stellenbosch 2-0 Chippa United

Stellenbosch enjoyed a perfect start after beating Chippa United 2-0 on Saturday morning at Idas Valley Stadium.

Roy-Keane Avontuur and Mervin Boji got the goals for Stellies.

Sekhukhune United 2-0 Polokwane City

Sekhukhune United started on a winning note after beating Polokwane City 2-0 in the Limpopo derby on Sunday afternoon at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

Kutlwano Majoro gave Sekhukhune an early lead, within the first two minutes with a long range shot

Rise and Shine had a big chance to equalise from the penalty spot three minutes later but Kopano Senosi's spot-kick hit the post and was cleared.

Tshepo Mokoena eventually doubled the lead for Polokwane with 25 minutes to go.

Richards Bay 1-2 Royal AM

Royal AM had winning start after edging Richards Bay 2-1 in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Sunday afternoon at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Following a goalless first stanza, Thwihli Thwahla broke the deadlock with 12 minutes remaining and sealed the three points in stoppage time.

Siphesihle Buthelezi got a consolation goal for the Natal Rich Boyz in the tail end of added time.

AmaZulu 1-1 Golden Arrows

AmaZulu and Golden Arrows posted a point apiece in their opener after a 1-1 draw in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Sunday afternoon at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Siphephelo Majola gave Usuthu the lead on 19 minutes but Malinga eventually levelled matters for Abafana Bes'thende with 16 minutes remaining.
