Cape Town City have completed the signing of left-back Sifiso Ngobeni, beating off interest from Marumo Gallants to land the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender.

The Siya crew has been informed that although there were talks behind the scenes regarding a possible switch to Gallants, Ngobeni has opted for a fresh start in the Mother City with Jan Vreman's side.

Ngobeni, who struggled for regular minutes at Sundowns following his arrival from Bloemfontein Celtic, had been listed among the players released by the reigning Betway Premiership champions ahead of the new season.

That opened the door for multiple suitors to circle, with Gallants, under the leadership of newly appointed French head coach Lafitte Alexandre, among those believed to have expressed early interest.

Known for his work ethic, pace and attacking instincts, Ngobeni is expected to provide strong competition and cover in the defensive unit.
