Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids believes that the CAF Confederation Cup defeat is even more painful, having lost to the same opponents at the same stage during his time with Orlando Pirates.

Although his Simba SC side came agonisingly close to winning their first-ever continental title, they were unable to overcome their Moroccan counterparts, as a 1-1 draw in Zanzibar during the second leg handed victory to the Botola Pro Inwi champions.
The Reds of Msimbazi came into the return leg trailing 2-0, but Davids’ side halved the deficit early in the first half when Joshua Mutale scored in the 14th minute. Their momentum was, however, curtailed early in the second half when Yusuph Kagoma received a second yellow card and his marching orders in the 50th minute.
Despite being a man down, Simba did find the back of the net again, as Steven Mukwala thought he had levelled matters in the 70th minute. However, his header was disallowed after VAR adjudged him to be offside.
The Orange Boys managed to withstand the pressure and even scored late in the match, sealing a 1-1 draw on the night and a 3-1 aggregate win — securing the North African side their third CAF Confederation Cup title.
Coincidentally, their second success in the competition also came at the expense of Davids, as they defeated him while he was in charge of Orlando Pirates. The Cape Town native has now admitted that his latest defeat with Simba is even more painful due to the history between himself and RS Berkane.

“To be honest, I’m disappointed. This is the second time I’ve lost a CAF Confederation Cup final to RS Berkane, the first was when I was with Orlando Pirates in 2022. That match also ended 1-1 and we lost on penalties. This result hurts,” the Cape Town native said, as per The Citizen.
