Davids' Simba Denied Confed Cup Title By Berkane

RS Berkane have been crowned CAF Confederation Cup champions after a 3-1 win aggregate win over Fadlu Davids' Simba SC in the final.

The Moroccans entered the clash with a healthy lead after defeating the Tanzanian outfit 2-0 on home soil last weekend.

Davids' men, however, were unable to take the second leg to their regular home at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, as CAF felt the renovations to the stadium was not done in time for the encounter, which forced the clash to be held at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

The Tanzanian outfit got off to the perfect start when Joshua Mutale opened the scoring in the 17th minute by turning home Elie Mpanzu's cross at the far post.

However, Simba started the second half on poor note as Yusuph Kagoma was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card of the encounter.

Th Amaan Stadium were then sent into a frenzy as Simba doubled their lead as Steven Mukwala lost his marker and sent a header past goalkeeper Munir Mohamed, however the supporters silenced minutes later after the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.

However, Berkane ended any hopes of a Simba comeback when they equalised in the 91st minute via a clinical strike from Soumaila Sidibe, which secured their third Confederation Cup title.
