CAF Women's Champions League Report: Mamelodi Sundowns v Malabo Kings 15 November 2021

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies advanced to their first-ever CAF Women's Champions League final after defeating Malabo Kings FC on penalties.

Sundowns enjoyed a bright opening eight minutes in after a header at the near post of the area by Melinda Kgadiete flew over target from a ball by Rhoda Mulaudzi.

As Kings began to open up on the back of a slow start, Sundowns saw another chance this time by Chuene Morifi near the half-hour mark smothered by the opposite number.

Masandawana's persistent offensive play carried on and with halftime on the horizon Nonhlanhla Mthandi went close to the opener through a low close-range attempt.

Kings applied a renewed energy and optimism following the second half which left the Brazilians on the back foot amidst a lot of worrying moments.

Although Masandawana recovered and after 61 minutes watched a flying header in the area by Lelona Daweti crashed off the post while Thelea Smidt entered from the bench.

Daweti witnessed another clear chance from the far side 15 minutes later bring the opposing goalkeeper to a low save following a tame first-time effort.

Kings continued to chase shadows minutes apart as substitute Andisiwe Ngcoyi guided a delivery into the six-yard area inches wide of target, whilst extra-time followed.

The South African champions were unfortunate not to trail moments into extra-time from a move out on the left-side by Bella Rose but was let down by mistimed positioning.

A penalty shoot-out followed as neither team found the breakthrough and after each outfit missed, Sundowns emerged victors as Kings missed during the sudden death shoot-out.
