Ellis Names Banyana Squad For Turkish Women’s Cup

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named her squad for the upcoming Turkish Women's Cup later this month.

The Turkish Women's Cup gets underway between 13-23 January and will see Banyana compete against the likes of Turkey, Slovenia, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Zambia.

The tournament will serve as more preparations for this year's FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Ellis is hoping the tournament will help overcome some of the shortcomings in the squad, which she noticed in the defeats to Brazil and Australia.

"When you look at the Brazil and Australia games last year, I think individually and defensively we were found wanting. We have got to be better," Ellis said, as per SAFA.net.

"Any team's foundation is built on a good defense. Before we were very good defensively and we knew we would get a chance or two and we would score. So we have got to be better in that department."
