Return of the Prodigal League

Return of the Prodigal League
Since the beginning of Project Restart, only 3 goals have been scored before half-time in 11 matches. The return of football to the premier league has been peculiar. But I guess it can be expected. Don't get me wrong I was really excited and looking forward to every single game but let's be honest none of these guys were ever ready. And this does more harm than it should. Physically as well as with regards to the brand of the league itself. It's clear that there is a huge reliance on the crowd and atmosphere that comes with it. Secondly, the wait was awfully long and emotionally draining for all the players in action. Sometimes it felt like they were waiting for something to happen, or to spur them on. Notably the intensity and entertainment came more naturally in the second halves. There was just that decisive edge missing that viewers get infused in. Even the crowd automations didn't help because they were often miss cued. Stands covered by flags rather than fans, temperature tests, tactical stops posing as cooling breaks and five substitutions is the new normal we as football enthusiasts have to rapidly get use to for the near future. The funniest part was Mane' forgetting to take a knee when the whistle sounded in support of Black Lives Matter. This must have been really hard on the mental side of things. Don't get me started on the amount of injuries that was racked up so far. The rotation and depth of the squad will determine a lot of the results going forward. The resumption positively provides an opportunity to take a stand for black lives. Once again proving that there are matters bigger than football. All in all my favourite league is back but its comes back with a lot of restrictions of which we all have to get use to. The swift return of the prodigal league comes at a price. What we do know is that it can only get better, as we all adapt to the times we currently living in.
