Dutch international, Kevin Strootman, has been ruled out of the Brazil World Cup following a serious knee injury.
The Roma midfielder, who played a starring role in Netherlands' World Cup qualification campaign, suffered the injury early in his club's defeat to Napoli on Sunday.
The Italian club confirmed that Strootman has "torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee" and will undergo surgery in the next few days.
"This is terrible for Kevin, I can imagine his whole world right now has just collapsed," said Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.
"This is a loss as Kevin made a very big contribution to our World Cup qualification for Brazil.
"This is the worst thing for Kevin."
The 24-year-old is looking at a spell of at least six months on the side-lines and joins Theo Walcott and Radamel Falcao as the latest victim on the World Cup injury list.
