Portuguese and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo is in a battle to get fit for the 2014 Fifa World Cup with reports of two different injuries coming out of Europe.
According to the Portuguese FA he's been resting due to a muscle injury on his left thigh but the Spanish newspaper, 'El Pais', points out that there is a risk of the 29-year-old not being able to even make the tournament because of 'a severe inflammation in the patellar tendon in his left knee'.
The situation is so serious that after Portugal's recent goalless draw in their friendly with Greece, head coach, Paulo Bento, told his country's press, "We must be prepared to be competitive without Ronaldo or any other player and learn to play without him.
"Portugal have no time limit on his return to competitive football. The most fundamental thing at this point is to take care of his health. Ronaldo needs to rest and according to Fifa rules, we have up to the 15th June to make squad alterations."
The star goal scorer has been plagued with injury over the past months but his condition worsened when he returned early to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinals before participating in two further rounds, including the final.
