Arsenal 'Open' Talks With R1.8bn Real Madrid Striker

Arsenal are reportedly keen to sign a Real Madrid superstar.

Arsenal have reportedly begun talks with a Real Madrid star believed to be worth €90 million (R1.8 billion), as they look to break the bank for attacking reinforcements in this transfer window.

The Gunners are understood to be in the market to bolster their attack. Injuries in the frontline last season derailed their campaign, and they are now looking to supplement what is already at their disposal.

One of the areas in attack that the club is keen to strengthen is the wing. Among the targets in this position are Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but topping their wishlist is believed to be Los Blancos’ Rodrygo.

The Brazil international struggled for game time during the latter part of the 2024/25 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, and has continued to find minutes hard to come by under Xabi Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 24-year-old started in the team’s opening match at the FIFA Club World Cup against Al Hilal, but since then has only played 23 minutes in the competition — against RB Salzburg — having been left on the bench against both Pachuca and Juventus.

According to The Athletic, the record European champions would not stand in the player’s way should he wish to leave, and are open to negotiating with any interested parties. One of the clubs reportedly keen to recruit him is Arsenal.

The same report claims the English giants have held preliminary talks with the forward’s representatives to gauge how feasible a deal for Rodrygo could be.
