Osimhen 'Issues' Release Clause Demand

Osimhen 'Issues' Release Clause Demand

Victor Osimhen has reportedly demanded that an achievable release clause be inserted into any new contract he signs with Napoli.

Contract negotiations between Napoli and Victor Osimhen have hit a snag, with reports claiming the striker is insisting that an achievable release clause be included in his next deal.

The 24-year-old Super Eagle enjoyed a fruitful 2022/23 season with Gli Azzurri, winning the Serie A Golden Boot en route to helping the Italian giants win their first league title in 33 years.

His rich vein of form ultimately led to a number of European giants courting the dynamic striker, but it seems the forward is now keen to stay in Naples a little bit longer.

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear he will not sell his talisman in this off-season, and Osimhen is seemingly willing to honour that stance with a contract extension.

According to Sky Italia, the player's agent, Roberto Calenda, recently sat down with the Italian football chief in order to negotiate an extension. Napoli bought the Lagos native for €75 million (R1.5 billion) in 2021 and with his contract set to expire in 2025, the Serie A team seem intent on making a profit on the west African.

The same report claims that De Laurentiis wants to insert a release clause of €200 million (R4 billion) into any new deal, but Osimhen and his representative deem that too high and instead want a release clause of between €120 and €140 million (R2.4 and R2.8 billion).

It seems highly unlikely any side would pay Napoli €200 million for the Nigerian, and because Osimhen still has ambitions of plying his trade in the Premier League, the expectation is that a compromise could be reached.

Negotiations are set to continue in the coming days as the two parties look to come to a swift resolution over Osimhen's future.
