In recent weeks, the Theatre of Dreams had been mooted as one of the likeliest destinations for French defender Benjamin Pavard, with the 27-year-old rumoured to also be keen on a move to England.

However, now it seems that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is bound for Serie A.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri have agreed a fee in the region of €30 million (R615 million) for the versatile defender as he looks to call time on his stint with the Bavarian giants.

Pavard is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, and is believed to have made it clear he will not extend with Die Roten as he wishes to leave, having won almost every club competition he has participated in since arriving in Munich.

Now, the 49-time cap Les Bleus star is close to realising his wish of a new adventure, with the Italian giants looking to secure his services in the next week.

The reason for United's lack of urgency in completing a deal for Pavard is said to be because they needed to sell players first, with Harry Maguire in particular the name being floated as the necessary departure in order to accommodate the transfer of the right-back-turned-centre-back.

The same report claims that the Maubeuge native will arrive in Milan between Tuesday and Wednesday to complete a medical and finalise his move as he looks to become Simeone Inzaghi's sixth signing of the transfer window.

The Bundesliga giants will now have to move quickly to find a replacement for Pavard, having failed in their hopes of luring Manchester City defender Kyle Walker to Bavaria earlier in this window.
