The German Football Association (DFB) were left red-faced after making a mistake by inadvertently including a Latvian player in their squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Germany are set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina at home, before travelling to Hungary to wrap up their group stage matches. However, the DFB were forced to backtrack on their selection after a surprising error came to light.
Reports have surfaced suggesting that Julian Nagelsmann, Germany's head coach, mistakenly called up Dario Sits, who is currently on loan at Helmond Sport from his parent club Parma.
The confusion stems from the fact that Sits is actually Latvian, and has even played against Germany's Under-21s in the past.
The DFB quickly rectified the situation, removing Sits from the squad as soon as the mix-up was noticed.
According to a report by the Associated Press, the DFB attributed the mistake to "a technical error in the database," which led to the unintentional inclusion of the Latvian player.
Adding to the confusion, Sits has already earned two caps for Latvia, making him ineligible to represent Germany.
