The upcoming transfer window is shaping up to be another massive one, with players such as Florian Wirtz poised to be sold for €100 million (R2 billion). While Bayer Leverkusen prepare to part ways with one of their talismen, there has already been significant player movement ahead of the new season.

The most notable deal so far is that of Spain international Dean Huijsen. Earlier this month, Real Madrid confirmed they had reached an agreement with Bournemouth for the centre-back’s services, triggering his reported £50 million (R1.2 billion) release clause. The Premier League Young Player of the Year nominee is now bound for the Santiago Bernabéu.

While one prominent youngster is on his way out of the English top flight, another is poised to arrive, with Brazilian teenage sensation Estevao set to join Chelsea.

The Blues actually secured the Franca native’s signature last season, but wanted him to continue his development in Brazil with Palmeiras. Although they paid €34 million (R690 million) for his services, he remained with Verdao, where he broke numerous records in the Brazilian top flight. He is now expected to join the English giants for the new campaign.

Real Madrid and Chelsea will both be competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, and the aforementioned players are likely to be available for their respective new sides once the tournament kicks off. There will also be some African presence at the global spectacle.

The continent’s best hope at the tournament will likely be Al Ahly, and they have added significant firepower in the form of Mahmoud Trezeguet. The Club of the Century announced his acquisition midway through the 2024/25 campaign, and after his loan stint with Al-Rayyan concludes, he will link up with the Red Devils.
