Previous reports indicated that the Brazilian winger was set to sign a new contract and reject the alleged interest from the Saudi Pro League.
However, the latest reports from Marca indicate that neither the contract talks nor the Saudi interest was as close as had previously been suggested.
While Los Blancos and the player's representatives have been engaging in talks, an agreement is far from completion as the initial proposal made by the player's agent, Frederico Pena, was deemed "unacceptable" by the club.
The publication reported that Vinicius was looking for a salary close to that of teammate Kylian Mbappe, reported to be €30 million per year (R615,390,000).
Instead, the club wanted to keep the player under €20 million per year (R410,349,800) and negotiations have now stalled.
In an attempt to gain more leverage on Los Merengues, Vinicius' agency Roc Nation Brazil, claimed to have been in talks with Saudi clubs to negotiate a big-money deal.
There were two reported meetings held between the Saudi Pro League and Vinicius' representatives to formulate a deal that would force Madrid into a better offer.
Marca reported that the rumours of a supposed $200 million per year (R3,6 billion) deal never materialised.
The club has also expressed concern that the Ballon D'Or contender's relationship with his teammates has deteriorated and some club directors have also worried about his behaviour causing disruptions within the dressing room.

The report added that the club is reportedly willing to part with the Brazilian, should a suitable offer arrive.
