This past weekend, Brazilian attacker Rodrygo was left on the bench for their LALIGA-defining tie against Barcelona in the latest iteration of ElClasico. The 23-year-old did not get a single minute in a crucial game which, if they won, would have kept their league title hopes alive.
Despite Carlo Ancelotti claiming that the former Santos star’s omission was due to injury concerns, rumours have since emerged suggesting it was more of a decision on the player’s side – a potential indication that the winger no longer views himself as a prominent figure within the Los Merengues dressing room.
Those reports have now been corroborated by Cadena SER, who claim that, along with the likely departures of Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric, the Selecao star will probably not feature prominently in Xabi Alonso’s plans.
It is claimed that the Spanish tactician intends to implement a two-forward system, with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior the main protagonists in his attacking duo, leaving Rodrygo to ponder his next career move.
Manchester City and Liverpool have previously been mentioned as long-time admirers of the young superstar, while Paris Saint-Germain are one of the few non-Premier League sides in Europe who could also afford him.
However, having recently spent big on the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, it’s unlikely they will sign another winger.

Saudi Arabia will likely be looking to pounce on the player’s apparent availability, but it remains to be seen whether he would be open to such a move.
