Los Blancos got off to the perfect start after being awarded a penalty on four minutes, which allowed Kylian Mbappe to step up and slot home his 25th league goal of the campaign.
The lead was doubled in the 14th minute when Mbappe completed his brace by latching onto a pass from Vinicius Junior before going clear and slotting home with a composed finish.
The Catalan giants did managed to reduce the deficit six minutes later, with Eric Garcia finding the back of the net from close range after Los Blancos failed to deal with Dani Olmo's corner.
Hansi Flick's charges took control thereafter and restored parity in the 32nd minute when Lamine Yamal latched onto a lay-off from Ferran Torres and sent a fine finish past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Barcelona were ahead two minutes later as Pedri pounced on a mix-up between Dani Ceballos and Mbappe before playing in Raphinha, who fired past Courtois for his 19th league goal of the campaign.
Raphinha was not done there as he completed his brace on the stroke of halftime by combining with Torres before calmly slotting past Courtois to get the two-goal advantage.
The Barcelona coach made a double change in the second half as Los Blancos looked to claw back the deficit, with Alejandro Balde and Andreas Christensen replacing Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi.
The visitors did pull a goal back with 20 minutes left on the clock as Mbappe completed his hat-trick by connecting with another pass from Vinicius before slotting home from close range to set up a nervy finish.
Los Blancos did have the ball in the back of the net in second-half stoppage time, but the celebrations were cut short as the foul on in the build, while Barcelona also had a fifth goal disallowed two minutes later after a Gavi handball.
