The Spaniard was appointed as the new head coach of his former side, signing a three-year deal that will take him to June 2028.
Alonso led Bayer to the 2023/24 Bundesliga title, going unbeaten for the league campaign, and won the DFB-Pokal as well to lead the club to a historic domestic double.
He was officially unveiled as Los Blancos manager on Monday as club President Florentino Perez welcomed Alonso "back home".
During his unveiling, Alonso revealed his excitement to take charge of the club he once played for, Madrid Universal reported.
"It’s a very exciting day, one to remember," the 43-year-old said. "I think there is only once in a lifetime when you can coach Real Madrid and today is the first day."
The Former Bayern Munich midfielder revealed what his biggest challenge will be ahead of the new season.
"I’ve made an analysis of how the team has played, how the players are and I use it to help me with my own ideas. As coaches, we depend on the players and I think the players are of a high level," he said.
He added: "The challenge is to make a team, to get the potential out of these players and that we all go as one. If we all go as one, we will have a very powerful force."
The 2010 World Cup winner will now manage the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham and revealed he has plans to get the best out of his team.
"It’s lucky that we have players of that level," Alonso said.
