With Kylian Mbappe reportedly having the option to cancel his Paris Saint-Germain contract next year, here is the latest on the Frenchman's future.
Argentina Goalkeeper: Why I Mocked Mbappe After World Cup
Despite committing to a new deal in France last year amid strong interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, it appears the 24-year-old has not quite given up hope of playing for the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners.
At the time, it was reported that Mbappe had signed a three-year extension with the Ligue 1 champions, but it has since been stated that the forward had actually extended his stay by two more seasons, with an option for a further 12 months.
The Athletic has claimed that the France international can decide to "unilaterally terminate" his deal in the French capital in 2024, meaning he could still walk away for free should he choose to continue his career elsewhere.
It is therefore believed that Mbappe could still land up at the LaLiga giants, with Real intending to not pay any transfer fee for the highest-paid player in Europe if he does become available to them again.
The ex-Monaco starlet has enjoyed a mammoth rise in world football since joining PSG in 2017 for a then-record transfer for a teenager, having scored an impressive 196 goals in 243 matches across all competitions for the club.
Mbappe needs just five more strikes to become the Parisian club's all-time leading scorer, with Edinson Cavani currently holding that position after netting 200 times for the Ligue 1 giants between 2013 and 2020.
