On Sunday evening, the legendary attacker came up against the prodigious young star for the first time in their careers when the two Iberian Peninsula nations clashed.
While the Barcelona winger has been among the best performers in world football over the course of the past season, at the Allianz Arena he was not at his usual best, as he was hooked at half-time of extra time.
Despite being 40 years old, Ronaldo drew the Selecao level in the second half as he scored their second equaliser to make the score 2–2. Nobody would find the back of the net thereafter, and the match would go on to be decided by penalties — with the 2016 European champions winning the shootout.
This is Ronaldo’s second UEFA Nations League title, but Yamal has consequently come under scrutiny. However, the Real Madrid legend has come to the teenager’s defence, claiming that he has a trophy-laden career ahead of him.
“Lamine is going to win a lot of collective and individual titles. He's a phenomenon,” the Portugal captain said after the final, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“He'll have a long career and he's going to win a lot of Nations Leagues. He’s 17… Please, leave him alone. I have to ask you to let him be. He has to be calm.”
