Many experts consider Messi's appearance in the 2005 Joan Gamper Trophy between Barcelona and Juventus as the game that kick-started his career.
The Argentine was almost unknown at the time but his solo runs and killer passes put the other world stars in the shadow.
Juventus boss Fabio Capello was left in awe of Messi's brilliance, which we have seen so many times since.
"I saw him playing for the Argentina youth team, and he looked like a good player," he said as recalled by Barcelona.com.
"But it's something else to see him in this stadium, in that shirt and before so many people. I have never seen a player of such quality."
Messi didn't score any goals but provided a superb assist in the 2-2 draw that Juventus decided on penalties.
Many consider the 24 August 2005 as the day Messi entered the world stages.
