Benzema: Ronaldo Has Not Congratulated Me On Ballon D'Or Win

Benzema: Ronaldo Has Not Congratulated Me On Ballon D'Or Win

Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo

Having won the Ballon d'Or last month, Karim Benzema has revealed that his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to congratulate him for winning the prestigious award.

Spain Coach Admits Barca Star Was A 'Last-Minute Pick'

For nine years, Benzema watched on as Ronaldo was constantly in contention to win the Golden Ball.

The Portuguese icon would go on to hold the illustrious award aloft four times while they were teammates at the Santiago Bernabeu, before Ronaldo departed the Spanish capital in 2018 and with his departure, the forward left an attacking void, one which his French co-star was more than happy to step into.

The 35-year-old has been in the form of his life since he succeeded Ronaldo as the club's talisman and has insisted that he always backed himself to one day win the Ballon d'Or once that happened.

"I always believed in myself, I knew that at some point or another with my qualities and my ambitions I could win it," he told Telefoot.

"That's why the last four years, I pushed, pushed again to get that trophy."

Mbappe: Why I Snubbed Real Madrid

Having cheered on Ronaldo during his Ballon d'Or triumphs, it seems that the Lyon native has not been afforded the same courtesy yet.

When asked if he had received some words of congratulations from the Manchester United forward for winning his first ever Golden Ball, the France international gave a shock response.

"No, not yet," Benzema added.

Real Madrid's star became only the fifth Frenchman to win the award and the first in to do it 24 years.
