PSG Urged To Get Rid Of Messi

PSG Urged To Get Rid Of Messi

Despite Lionel Messi's sublime form for Paris Saint-Germain so far this season, the club have been urged to get rid of the Argentine.

Cancelo Set To Make Switch To Bayern Permanent?

Messi's contract at the Parc des Princes is set to expire in six months, and, while the club's sporting director Luis Campos recently insisted that PSG are in negotiations with the Argentine over a new deal in the French capital, former Les Parisien left winger Jerome Rothen urged the club not to renew the 35-year-old's contract.

"Managing the three is complicated," he said on his RMC Sport programme 'Rothen s'enflamme'.

"After that, there is the wage bill. And we saw that PSG is blocked with the financial fair play.

"Because the wage bill has exploded. There, you have the opportunity to recover a large amount of money because the salary of Messi is substantial. It can allow you to recruit and improve your squad.

"For all that, it's a very bad idea to extend Leo Messi."

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is now allowed to negotiate a pre-contract with clubs outside of Ligue 1, but reports suggest that the expectation is for the Rosario native to prolong his stay in the French capital for the next two years.

Carragher: Man City May Not Be The Right Club For Haaland

Messi's second season in Paris has already proven more fruitful than his debut campaign as he has managed to reach double figures in both goals and assists in the French top division, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists in 18 Ligue 1 appearances.
