End Is Near: Messi Makes Shock Retirement Claim

End Is Near: Messi Makes Shock Retirement Claim

Argentine icon Lionel Messi has stated that his playing days could be over sooner rather than later.

Rampant Argentina Extend Unbeaten Run To 36 Matches Ahead Of World Cup

For close to two decades, the playmaker has mesmerised fans around the world with his otherworldly ability, but according to him, it soon may all be coming to an end.

Messi, 35, has revealed that his future in the beautiful game is uncertain, admitting that he is unlikely to keep playing for much longer.

"I don't know, so many things happen," Messi told Universo Valdano, after being asked about when he could retire.

"It was a dream that I always had as a child, of being able to play in Argentine football, that I would go to the pitch and I wanted to be there.

"But today it depends on many things, I have my family, three children, I just had a very big change in my life that was difficult for me and my whole family. Now I have gotten over it and we feel spectacular.

"I love football, I love playing it and I enjoy it, the only thing I've done all my life is play football, and I'm sure that whatever I do after will be related to it, although I don't know what. I don't think I'll play much more."

Ronaldo Reacts To Breaking Messi Shirt Sales Record

Close friend and international teammate Angel Di Maria has already said he will retire from international football after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and Messi might follow suit if his recent comments are anything to go by.

The Barcelona icon has already admitted that the World Cup in Qatar will be his last, and, having been among the best in the world for almost all his career, perhaps the Rosario native is eager for a different challenge in his life.
