The Brazilian insisted that goals come second to the Portuguese forward, and that his main objective is to win games with the team.
"Cristiano is not obsessed with scoring goals," he told Canal+.
"Goals always come in the end when he works hard and the team works hard too. The most important thing is that we won."
Marcelo also discussed Real Madrid's chances in the tie, saying that Los Blancos will stay humble despite having two away goals in the bank.
"The tie is not finished just yet. We remain humble. Anything can happen," he added.
"We have to work like we did here in Gelsenkirchen in order to progress.
"Schalke are a great team and made life hard for us. We hold the advantage, but nothing has been decided."
Real Madrid will be confident ahead of their second leg against the Bundesliga outfit on the 10 March, thanks to goals from Ronaldo and Marcelo.
The 30-year-old forward broke his recent goalless spell when he finished with a well-timed header in the first half, making that his 37th goal in all competitions this season.
