The 29-year-old had not played for the previous three weeks due to an injury, but returned to action during Barca's 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
He came on as a substitute and scored his side's fourth goal, setting a new record for the most goals scored at home in La Liga history, with 180 strikes.
However, during the first half, Messi seemingly wasn't feeling too well, or perhaps the pressure got to him, as he was seen retching on Barcelona's bench.
This was not the first time Messi has struggled with vomiting during a game – he has previously been seen retching on the pitch for his club and country a few times.
Blaugrana manager Luis Enrique did not comment on the incident, but insisted the comfortable 4-0 victory was the perfect preparation for Barca's upcoming clash against former boss Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
"It was a complete performance," Enrique said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"We have Leo back and it took him no time to be back in top form."
