The Argentine has scored three free-kicks in his past three LaLiga matches, and has found the back of the net from a set-piece on seven occasions across all competitions this season.
Messi has now struck six free-kicks in consecutive LaLiga seasons for the Catalan giants, although there are still eight games for him to add to his current tally.
The 31-year-old has now scored 47 free-kicks in his career, with six of those coming for his national team Argentina. Although he has been remarkable from set-pieces in recent years, he still trails Ronaldo's tally of 53 direct free-kicks.
However, the two superstars are still some way off the top 10, which consists of some of the deadliest dead-ball specialists the beautiful game has ever seen. Lyon legend Juninho Pernambucano occupies top spot with his 77 career free-kicks, with Pele closest to him on 70 strikes.
