The veteran striker completed a sensational return to Uruguayan giants Nacional last week after leaving Atletico Madrid as a free agent at the end of June, ending a successful 16-year spell in Europe.
Suarez's most fruitful stint at a single club came in Spain, where he formed an excellent on- and off-field relationship with Messi at Barcelona to help inspire the Catalan giants to 13 trophies in six years, including a famous treble in the 2014/15 season.
The two South Americans have remained friends since, and it was therefore not a surprise that Messi had some kind words of encouragement for Suarez after he returned to his first professional club.
"I want to send you a big hug and wish you all the best in this new stage of your career," the Argentine said in a recorded video message that played at Suarez's unveiling, according to The Sun.
"I know how important it is for you to be there at Nacional, back at home and in your country after so long, to prepare for the World Cup which is just around the corner.
"Now I'm going to have to follow Nacional from here.
"You know I love you a lot and would do anything for you. I wish you all the best and hope to see you soon."
It is said Suarez and his family travelled to Uruguay in Messi's private plane, which was, according to The Sun, designed by an Argentinian company for the Paris Saint-Germain No. 30.
