French striker, Karim Benzema, has insisted he cannot compare Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi because both players are great.
Benzema gave his views on the ongoing Messi-v-Ronaldo debate and perhaps surprisingly didn't choose his teammate over the Barcelona forward.
"I cannot compare Cristiano with Messi, they do not have the same style of play," he told reporters as quoted by AS.
"They are both great players and among the best on the planet, that is without doubt.
"To get to their level I have to continue improving my statistics and winning titles, individually and as part of a team."
The 26-year-old also admitted the Spanish La Liga needs FC Barcelona and the Catalan giants can't leave in case Catalonia receives its independency.
"We hope that Barça can stay in La Liga. Real Madrid and Barcelona are both great teams," he added.
"If they go to Ligue 1 that will be another problem, but we hope that Barça will stay.
"We need Barça in La Liga."
Benzema, who scored five goals in 11 appearances for Real this season, has linked up with the France squad before they will face Portugal on Saturday.
