Following the end of the Saudi Pro League this past Monday, Ronaldo hinted that his time at Al-Nassr had come to an end with a cryptic post across his social media platforms.

"This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all," the five-time Ballon D'Or winner said.

The former Manchester United forward's contract with the Saudi side expires at the end of June 2025 and speculation has grown that he might be heading to a FIFA Club World Cup team, with Wydad AC and Botafogo reportedly expressing interest.

However, Al-Nassr's sporting director Fernando Hierro revealed that the club was desperate for the Real Madrid legend to stay beyond next season, according to ESPN

"Ronaldo's contract with Al Nassr runs until June 30," Hierro said. "We will work to renew his contract so he can continue with us, and there are many clubs interested in signing him."

He added: "We are negotiating with Cristiano Ronaldo to renew his contract. God willing, we will find a solution."

Hierro stressed the importance the ex-Juventus striker has played in growing the Saudi Pro League status.

"Ronaldo's presence from the beginning is a national project," Hierro said. "Cristiano has opened up soccer in this country to the world."

"It's phenomenal that he had the courage to come here, stay here, and open up the Saudi Arabian league to the world. It's an extraordinary milestone.

He concluded: "Since his arrival, top-level players have come here. He opened all the doors. From there, the people at the top are doing an extraordinary job. They're pushing forward. We are in contact to renew his contract and hope he continues with us."
