One of football's most influential figures has labelled Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time, ahead of rival Lionel Messi and legendary Brazil striker Pele.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is a representative for many of the world's biggest footballing names, was speaking to Tuttosport following Ronaldo's 700th career goal when he declared his belief that the best was yet to come for the Portugal captain and that the 34-year-old was already the greatest footballer of all time.
Ronaldo became only the sixth player to reach 700 career goals during A Selecao's defeat to Ukraine earlier in the week, and the former Real Madrid star is now only 67 goals behind Pele, who is the third-highest goalscorer of all time.

"He (Ronaldo) is the strongest ever, for him the best is yet to come and will arrive with the Juve jersey. You will see, in Juventus, he will also beat the Brazilian's (Pele's) record goal," Mendes said.
"The numbers do not lie. The overwhelming way in which Cristiano Ronaldo shatters records elevates him to the category of the best player in the history of football and with a big difference compared to the second.
"For all that he has achieved in the services of the different clubs which he has represented, either in England or in Spain or now in Italy, but also with the Portuguese national team.
"The fact is that, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal has already played three finals, winning two."

The other players who have scored more than 700 official career goals include Gerd Muller, Ferenc Puskas, Romario and Josef Bican.
