Mbappe Sets New Record As PSG Edge Six-Goal Thriller

Mbappe Sets New Record As PSG Edge Six-Goal Thriller

Kylian Mbappe is now Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading scorer after scoring in the team's 4-2 victory over Nantes on Saturday night.

Ligue 1

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 4-2 Nantes

Date: 04 March 2022

Venue: Parc des Princes

PSG were still without Neymar and Renato Sanchez due to injury and they were joined by Presnel Kimpembe, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season, as Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi continued to lead the attack.

The hosts had a perfect start after Messi started and finished off an attacking move on 12 minutes with a strike into the bottom corner from a deflected cross by Nuno Mendes.

The Parisians remained on the front foot and were 2-0 up five minutes later after Jaouen Hadjam turned Mendes' square ball across the face of goal into his own net.

Nantes were fired up to come back into the game and Ludovic Blas reduced the deficit just after the half-hour mark with a great strike at the near post after evading a couple of challenges.

Les Canaries found PSG not well organised again at the near post after Ignatius Ganago levelled matters just before the break with a flick at the near post from a corner.

Christophe Galtier's charges were all over Nantes early in the second stanza and Danilo Pereira eventually restored their lead on the hour-mark with a close-range header from a cross by Mbappe.

PSG thought they had won a penalty five minutes later after the referee pointed to the spot for a foul on Nordi Mukiele in the box but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spotted a foul by PSG prior to the penalty incident and the penalty decision was reversed.

As the game opened up, Galtier made an attacking and tactical change with 20 minutes to go, as Carlos Soler came on for Mukiele.

The game was there for the taking for either side in the closing stages, as Mbappe came close to putting PSG out of sight and Ganago also nearly equalised, both with strikes that flashed just wide.

Mbappe eventually sealed the points for the Parisians in stoppage time with a strike in the box from a solo run and in doing so, surpassed Edinson Cavani as the club's all-time leading scorer with 201 goals
