This past weekend, football’s biggest club competition came to an end as Chelsea were crowned world champions for the second time in their history. They defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0, with Cole Palmer scoring a first-half brace before assisting new signing Joao Pedro for their final strike.
They won the tournament despite suffering a group-stage defeat to Brazilian giants Flamengo. Following that 1-0 loss, a 3-0 win over Esperance de Tunis ensured their passage to the knockout stages.
Although they suffered an emphatic defeat to the eventual winners of the tournament, the Tunisian side were only one of two African teams at the competition to win a match at the Club World Cup. That victory came on matchday two against LAFC and earned them a 21st-place standing on the overall tournament log.
Their North African counterparts, however, did not enjoy the same success in the United States of America, as both Wydad Athletic Club and Al Ahly left the newly expanded tournament without a victory. The Red Castle lost all their games, consequently finishing in 31st position, second from bottom, while Jose Riveiro’s charges at least managed two draws from their three group-stage matches, finishing 25th.

The CAF representative that finished the highest at the Club World Cup were Mamelodi Sundowns. They managed to beat Ulsan HD and draw with Fluminense, and the four points accumulated earned them an 18th-place ranking in the official standings.
