By the time he left the Gunners in 2008, the midfielder had made 243 appearances for the London club, and was a key member of their famous "Invincibles" squad in the 2003/04 season.
Also in that Brazil squad was the legendary Kaka, who was only 20 years old when he was chosen to be a part of Luiz Felipe Scolari's selection for the tournament. The playmaker made just one appearance at the showpiece, playing 18 minutes in his country's 5-2 win over Costa Rica in the group stage.

Kaka was an unused substitute for the rest of that World Cup, but later became one of the Selecao's most important players, playing at both the 2006 edition in Germany and at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
