Los Blancos reportedly want to get Gareth Bale off their wage bill, and the Welshman has often been linked with a return to the Premier League. A sale of the Spanish giants' most expensive signing ever is reportedly on the cards, with Manchester United and his former club Tottenham Hotspur being linked with a move for the 29-year-old, according to talkSPORT.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho is another high-profile name who could return to the Premier League. He has experienced a tricky first full campaign in Spain, with some of the Catalan club's fans turning on the Brazilian. The 26-year-old could be given an exit route from the Camp Nou by United, as per The Sunday Mirror. Chelsea are also rumoured to be interested in his services, but can only make a move for him if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) agrees to delay the Blues' transfer ban by FIFA.

James Rodriguez is another star who could end up in England. According to Sky Sports, the Colombian wants to leave Bayern Munich following his two-year loan in Germany and has asked his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find him a new club. The Bavarians can still activate their €42 million (R674 million) purchase option on the playmaker or send him back to Madrid. Sky Sports, though, believe Bayern will not buy the 27-year-old, which means he will return to Real. However, Zinedine Zidane is reportedly not keen on the left-footer either, but the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and United are understood to be monitoring his situation.

So far, the big English and Spanish clubs have been quiet in the transfer window, but that is expected to change after the UEFA Europa League final between Arsenal and Chelsea on 29 May, and the UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Spurs on 1 June. The latter, for example, are expected to dive into the market this year after not signing a single player in the 2018/19 campaign, with Dani Ceballos and Andre Gomes being linked with the Lilywhites.
