10 Of The New Generation's Superstars

Kylian Mbappe, 20 (Paris Saint-Germain)

Perhaps icons such as Messi and Ronaldo are irreplaceable, but the new generation of footballers has many exciting talents who will undoubtedly carry the torch for years to come.

Although Kylian Mbappe is already a FIFA World Cup winner, it must not be forgotten that he only recently turned 20 years old. The Paris Saint-Germain man is already spoken of as a superstar, but with his whole career ahead of him still, perhaps it would be best to ease on the expectations.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, perhaps to a lesser extent, is spoken of in a similar light to Mbappe. The 21-year-old has incredible experience for a player his age – he is already just 11 games off his 200th professional appearance at the highest level for club and country.

Following his performance at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, Ajax Amsterdam's Frenkie de Jong deserves to be included in the list, along with his current teammate and skipper Matthijs de Ligt. The 19-year-old has been club captain for two seasons now, and is already an international footballer.

De Jong, on the other hand, is getting closer to joining FC Barcelona after the Spanish giants and Ajax came to an agreement over a transfer in January this year, and the midfielder is expected to go on to become one of the world's best.

Bundesliga starlet Jadon Sancho also features in the gallery for his rise to stardom at Borussia Dortmund this season. The 18-year-old is already being valued at about £100 million (R1.8 billion), and is said to have attracted interest from the Red Devils and PSG.
