Renard: I Will Support Morocco Vs France

Three-time CAF Coach of the Year Herve Renard, who was born in France, has declared that he will be supporting Morocco in their 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final clash against Les Bleus.

Senegal Set To Lose Head Coach After World Cup Exit?

While he has spent a large part of his coaching career outside of Europe, Renard is originally from France, but has decided against getting behind his country of birth for Wednesday night's clash.

Speaking in a recent interview, the 54-year-old Saudi Arabia manager stated that he would be supporting the Atlas Lions in their last four encounter against Didier Deschamps' side following his experience of working for the north African nation.

"I am French, I have a French passport, but I will support Morocco," he told RMC.

"I had a fantastic adventure with a group of players and a country that loves football. They are so proud, they deserve it.

"They have so much passion that can be excessive, but today it is an exceptional award.

"When you are the massive favourite, you have everything to lose. Morocco has everything to gain.

"In a way, the competition is already won for what they did."

Renard was in charge of the Moroccan national team between 2016 and 2019, during which he led the Atlas Lions to their first World Cup in 20 years in Russia.

The Frenchman's Saudi Arabia side, meanwhile, made history with their group-stage win over Argentina in the Middle East last month, before seeing his team fail to qualify for the next round of the tournament.
