The South Korean defender is a 15-year veteran and played a crucial role in helping South Korea defeat Germany at the 2018 World Cup, scoring the first goal in a 2-0 win.
Young-gwon's attention is now solely on helping his side, Ulsan HD, go as far as possible in the Club World Cup.
In an exclusive interview with FIFA, the 35-year-old was proud to be playing at the historic tournament.
"It's an honour to be here because the best clubs in the world are competing to determine the champion,” he said.
The veteran defender was looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
"Our goal for this tournament is to advance from the group stage,” he added. "I think I know better than anyone how difficult it is to progress from the group stage and what the players need to do.”
The K League outfit will play Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in their first match of the tournament and said each game in the tournament was going to be a tough one.
"Of course, it will be difficult. I think they’ll be tough matches, but in football, you never know," Young-gwon said.
"There’s no rule that says we can’t win. We’ll need to discuss with the coaching staff how to approach the game when facing strong teams, and we’ll have to be ready to play good matches," he concluded.
