Heartbreak As Tau Error Leads To Al Ahly's CWC Exit

Heartbreak As Tau Error Leads To Al Ahly's CWC Exit

African champions Al Ahly failed to make the final of the FIFA Club World Cup after losing 2-0 to Fluminense in the semi-final on Monday night.

Red Devils coach Marcel Koller made one change from the win over Al Ittihad, as Ahmed Koka made for Akram Tawfik in the midfield as Percy Tau continued in the attack.

Fluminense nearly got off to the perfect start when Jhon Arias collected a pass from Keno before unleashing a powerful strike that rattled the upright.

The Egyptian side carved out a couple chances of their own ten minutes later, with Tawfik and Mohamed Abdelmonem passing up good chances in the 18-yard area.

Tau was tipped by the opposition as one of Al Ahly's key threats and the South African did well to create an opening after 35 minutes  when picked out Hussien El Shahat, who saw his effort blocked.

It was more of the same in the second half, but Fluminense were afforded the chance to break the deadlock on 70 minutes after being awarded a penalty for Tau's foul on Marcelo.

Jhon Arias took responsibility and calmly dispatched the penalty to give his side the lead with 20 minutes to go in the contest.

Tau would play no further part in the game after making way for Karim Fouad, while Mohamed Kafsha and Taher Mohamed replaced Tawfik and Kahraba for the final 15 minutes.

However, Fluminense ended any hope of an Al Ahly comeback when John Kennedy found the second goal on 90 minutes to seal their spot in the final of the Club World Cup.
