Ex-Ahly Chief: Riveiro Possesses The Qualities

An ex-Al Ahly director of football has backed Jose Riveiro to do well with the Club of the Century.

A former Al Ahly executive has spoke glowingly of the rumoured appointment of Jose Riveiro.

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Riveiro is seemingly on the verge of leading the record African champions to the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup, where they are set to face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the opening match.

Three years after arriving in African football to coach the Buccaneers, the Vigo native has forged a strong reputation for himself on the continent, having won five domestic cups, as well as spearheading their Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League charge this season.

He appears to be close to being announced as the new head coach of the 12-time African champions. However, some have expressed reservations about his managerial pedigree, noting that he has not coached a major club or national team in world football. But a former Al Ahly director of football holds a different view on the Spaniard’s potential appointment.

Hady Khashaba, who led the club’s football strategy until his departure in 2014, spent his entire playing career — from 1990 to 2006 — at the Red Devils. He believes that, despite the club’s legacy of appointing high-profile managers, they would have done the necessary due diligence before deciding on the 47-year-old.

"Rivero has significant African experience, and Al Ahly doesn't choose a coach randomly. He possesses the qualities that qualify him for success, along with a strong roster that will help him achieve his goals,” the Egyptian said on Ten TV.
