In an exclusive on the Al Ahly website, the Red Devils captain admitted that he was proud to represent the club at the global event.
He revealed the team would count on its rich history in continental and intercontinental tournaments in preparation for the tournament opener against US-side Inter Miami.
El-Shenawy said the team's experience at previous editions of the competition gave the rest of the squad added motivation to deliver a strong performance at this year's competition.
The Egypt shot-stopper also had words of praise for new Al Ahly coach and former Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro.
"The technical staff is putting in a lot of effort to prepare the players in the best possible way,” he said.
However, the team's main focus was on being ready for the tournament. Al Ahly is in a group with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, FC Porto, and Palmeiras.
El-Shenaway called on his teammates to represent the Red Giant and to play with pride.
