The 47-year-old’s first official match in charge of the Club of the Century will come on club football’s biggest stage, as the Egyptian giants are poised to play the opening fixture of the new iteration of the Club World Cup.
The Vigo native will lead his charges out to face the newly formed Major League Soccer franchise, Inter Miami, and despite their relative infancy, they boast serial winners such as Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The former Orlando Pirates boss is aware of this and is not taking the match-up against the Herons lightly.
"We will face a strong team with a group of big stars who don't need much introduction to their football achievements. Inter Miami is a new team in terms of its formation, but it has the same ambition to compete, win, and qualify. We are well aware that the match will be strong and competitive,” Riveiro told Al Ahly’s official website.
The Spanish tactician also revealed why they insisted on travelling early to the United States of America.
"We have been preparing intensively and in an organised manner since the moment we arrived in the United States,” he added.
