According to Sport, the Spanish giants have started the process of reducing their wage bill by the required €200 million (R4 billion).
The Blaugrana's effort to comply with LaLiga's Financial Fair Play rules has reportedly seen them approach two players in the squad to ask if they would agree to take a salary cut.
It is believed it is Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen, who were signed as free agents just last year, whom the club spoke to, but their response was a negative one.
The report claims the Ivory Coast and Denmark internationals feel their commitment to the project cannot be questioned after they turned down several offers from other teams to join the Catalans in 2022.
While they are both fully aware of the club's economic situation, they are said to think it is unreasonable that they are asked to agree to reduced terms so early in their stay at Barca.

The LaLiga leaders will now need to "look for alternative solutions" as they have no choice but to honour the initial agreements they made with Kessie and Christensen.
