Europa League Report: Liverpool 4-3 Borussia Dortmund 14 April 2016
Europa League   Result: Liverpool 4-3 (5-4 agg) Dortmund   Date: 14 April 2016   Venue: Anfield   Liverpool booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals after coming back from 3-1 down to beat Dortmund 4-3 in the second leg.   The crucial away goal arrived only a few minutes after the game got underway. Dortmund put together a counter attack which gave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a chance to shoot. The attempt was saved but the rebound fell for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who slotted it.   Only four minutes later the German outfit were two goals clear. Marco Reus released Aubameyang down the right and he surged towards the box before smashing a shot into the top corner of Simon Mignolet's goal.   Both sides missed opportunities during the opening half and Dortmund took their two-goal cushion into the dressing rooms.   The Reds were back in with a shot three minutes after the interval when Divock Origi scored their first goal. The Belgian forward drove towards the Liverpool box before finishing with a low strike past Weidenfeller.   However, the result was seemingly put beyond doubt just shy of the hour mark as Reus netted Dortmund's third away goal to hand them a 3-1 lead, 4-2 on aggregate. Reus ghosted in behind the defence and was found by Hummels' pass before placing his shot in the back of the net.   Liverpool responded to reduce the deficit again in the 66th minute. Philippe Coutinho cut in from the left flank and drilled a shot into the bottom corner of the goal from outside the area.   Filled with belief after their second goal, the hosts continued pressing forward and found their equaliser in the 78th minute. A corner kick from the left picked out Mamadou Sakho who finished from close range.   With scores level at 3-3 Dortmund were set to go through on away goals, but a winning goal arrived in stoppage time. James Milner and Daniel Sturridge combined before sending a cross towards Dejan Lovren who guided home a powerful header to give the Reds the aggregate victory in dramatic fashion.
